I HAVE A WATER LEAK WHO SHOULD I CALL?

If the water leak is between your water meter and your house, or inside your home it is your responsibility and you should call a qualified plumber immediately. If the leak is in the water meter or on Council land you may need to contact GCCC first. If the leak has been hidden for some time it may have been running up your water bill. Gold Coast City Council can offer you a discount on the excess water charge provided the leak has been fixed by a licensed plumber. Ask us about minimising your out of pocket expenses from any water leak.

WHY IS MY TOILET RUNNING CONSTANTLY?

If your toilet is running, either the flap on the bottom of the tank isn’t sealing shut, or the float valve is no longer working. Leaking toilets can waste a surprisingly large amount of water, so it’s important to get the problem taken care of as soon as possible by a qualified plumber. Oceanside Services can have it fixed fast and at a minimal cost, and also attend to any related leaks around your home that may be causing an issue. In the meantime, turn off the water supply next to the toilet when you leave the house and at night to save water until you have the problem fixed.

MY TOILET IS BLOCKED, WHAT COULD IT BE?

Toilet blockages can occur for a number of reasons from tree roots and other solid objects blocking the drain, to soft blockages of toilet paper and the like clogging it up. Hand rods/pumps may alleviate the problem, but if not you’ll need to call in a plumber with specialised equipment for clearing blockages. WHAT DO I DO WITH A BLOCKED FLOOR DRAIN?

A blocked drain in your home can be from a build up of hair, soap fillers, and other dirt and grime. Remove the grate and clean out anything that may be clinging to it. Poor a cup of disinfectant or drain cleaner down the drain and flush it out with a bucket of clean hot water. If the blockage remains you may need a professional with a high pressure water jetter or an electric eel to clear the drain.

A PIPE HAS BURST, HOW DO I MINIMISE ANY DAMAGE?

A burst pipe can happen at any time, sometimes when you’re asleep or not even at home. It’s crucial that as soon as you detect a problem, that you switch off your water supply at the mains immediately, and then call in a licensed plumber to fix the problem before any further damage arises. The switch for your mains water supply is usually at the front of your home, and can be accessed simply by removing the cover and turning the tap or nozzle 90 degrees from on to off with your hand or a wrench.

MY SHOWER IS DRIPPING, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If your shower head is dripping but only for a short time after you’ve had a shower, it may just be the shower head emptying itself of any residual water. If however the dripping is constant over a period of several hours or days, you’ll need to check the integrity of the taps and seals and have them replaced if faulty or worn. Our trained plumbers can service your taps so you don’t have to worry about leakage, damage, or water wastage.

I LOST AN EARRING DOWN THE SINK, IS IT GONE FOREVER?

If you’ve lost an earring or jewellery down the sink, there’s a good chance it will still be located in the trap provided not too much water has been flushed through. Turn off all water and call someone who can access the trap and locate the missing item. The sooner this is done the higher the likelihood will be of finding your jewellery.
